Scholarships History

The Cookie Miller Scholarship has been established in memory of Cookie Miller who was an elementary school teacher in Pinellas County Schools for over 25 years. She lost her courageous fight of over 10 years to cancer in 2007. Her passions for children and education is why her husband Bob established this scholarship. This scholarship was created to provide financial assistance to graduating high school seniors or reapplying college students with a caregiving youth experience. The scholarship provides $1,000 to the student to be applied toward their financial needs for college. For more information on these scholarships or to apply, go to the Pinellas Education Foundation website and apply through the Caregiving Youth Scholarship.

The Walter Bach Memorial Scholarship was established in loving memory of Walter Bach by his wife, Kay. Walter's passion in life was to help children who were less fortunate. Walter was involved with the YMCA to help feed families and give children a better life. Walter was also able to continue the legacy of his father, who had created a camp for underprivileged children in Geneva, Wisconsin, called the Norman Barr Camp. The Norman Barr Camp would bring in buses of children for 2 weeks at a time to enjoy things like swimming in a lake and arts and crafts. In addition, the youth also learned about things such as a the importance of good diet. This scholarship of $1000 has been established to provide assistance to students furthering their education who have had caregiving responsibilities for a family member.
